FunBuzzer™ Set Up

  • Position the Remote Units within reach of each of the contestants.
  • Extend the wires to the Control Unit at the moderator′s location.
  • Connect the wire tips from each Remote Unit to any connector block on the Control Unit. Depress the red paddle on the connector block, insert one of the wire tips into the hole above the paddle, then release the paddle. Using the same technique, insert the other wire tip into the hole above the black paddle.
  • When all connections have been made, plug the wall transformer power supply into a 110–Volt AC outlet.
  • Test the operation of the System by activating the Remote Units one by one, resetting the System at the Control Unit after each test.

The 1/4" Audio Output Jack can be used to connect the beeper of the FunBuzzer™ to a sound reinforcement (PA) system.

Additional Notes for Stationmaster Control Unit: There is one LED on the top of the Stationmaster Control Unit for each set of input terminals that connect to player Remote Units. When powered up, all the LEDs glow faintly. When a Remote Unit is activated, the LED corresponding to that terminal set lights brightly and all others are extinguished.

FunBuzzer™ Bulb Replacement

  • At the bottom of the lens (where it meets the black base) there are two slots molded into the black base. Carefully insert a screwdriver, knife edge, or similar pry tool into the slot and twist to pop the lens off.
  • Pull the bulb straight out—do not twist; it does not unscrew.
  • Line up the base of the replacement bulb in the slot formed by the contacts in the fixture. Gently press the replacement bulb into place. Do not apply excessive pressure or the bulb body will bend the contacts out of shape, preventing them from making electrical contact.
  • Set the lens on the black base at an angle and press down on the very tip of the lens to snap it into place.

FunBuzzer™ Wand Repair (Click here to download printable instructions.)
Make sure that the System is unplugged before proceeding!

Step 1.
Using a pair of scissors, cut through the cord approximately 1" from the base of the Wand. Push the remaining stub into the Wand as far as possible to facilitate the next step.

Step 2.
Slip a knife edge between the Wand and the mounting ring around the pushbutton and gently pry the button out of the Wand.

Step 3.
Pull the pushbutton and cord pigtail out of the Wand.

Step 4.
Cut the cord pigtail just above the knot in the cord, leaving the remaining cord that is connected to the pushbutton as long as possible. This will make it easier to splice the old and new wires together. This step completes the removal of the faulty section of cord, and the Wand is now ready to be repaired and reassembled.

Step 5.
Starting at the terminals of the pushbutton, separate the two wires by gently pulling them apart. Set this part of the assembly aside temporarily.

Step 6.
Insert the end of the remaining long cord into the hole in the base of the Wand. Push/pull it until it extends a few inches out of the Wand. If it seems difficult to push the cord into the hole, a drop of rubbing alcohol on the end of the cord can make it slide into the hole more easily.

Step 7.
Tie a knot in the cord approximately 2 inches from the end of the wire and pull it tight.

Step 8.
Using the scissors, make a short cut in the separator that holds the individual wires of the cord together.

Step 9.
Pull the wire ends apart until the split reaches the knot. The wires are now ready to be spliced.

Step 10.
Hold one of the splices in one hand. With the other hand, insert one wire from the Wand cord and one wire from the pushbutton into the holes in the splice. Make certain that both of the wires are fully inserted into the splice. Look through the back side of the splice to check the position of the wire ends.

Step 11.
Using the butt end of the scissors, squeeze the splice together until it is completely closed. Be prepared to exert some effort to accomplish this step. More than one squeeze may be required to get the splice to close completely.
Note: The splice contains a waterproof gel that might squish out during this process. This is normal.

Step 12.
Repeat steps 10 and 11 for the remaining wires. This completes the reconnection of the pushbutton to the cord.

Step 13.
Configure the wires as shown before reinstalling the pushbutton into the Wand.

Step 14.
Holding the Wand tightly, gently pull on the long cord to work the splices into the Wand and position the pushbutton for reinsertion into the end of the Wand. When the cord stops at the knot, the pushbutton should still be slightly extended beyond the end of the Wand.

Step 15.
Insert the pushbutton into the Wand and firmly press it into place. It may be necessary to give the pushbutton a bit of a twist first before inserting it in order to take up the slack in the wires.

Step 16.
The repair is now complete.

BigDigit Display Set Up (Click here to download printable instructions.)
Description
The BigDigit Display is used with the COUNTDOWN TIMER CONTROLLER and as an add–on accessory to the COUNTDOWN TIMER with the BigDigit Output Option. The large, bright digits are visible from a considerable distance under various ambient lighting conditions. The numerical display is slaved to that of the COUNTDOWN UNIT to which it is connected. Any number commanded on the COUNTDOWN UNIT is tracked by the BigDigit Display. Multiple BigDigit Displays can be connected to one COUNTDOWN UNIT. BigDigit Displays have two cable connectors allowing them to be daisy–chained; a 5–way splitter is available if more connection options are required. Each BigDigit Display is powered by its own wall transformer which must be plugged into a 110–Volt AC outlet.

Each BigDigit Display is connected to the
COUNTDOWN UNIT by means of a six–conductor cable. A 25–foot cable is supplied as standard; however, any nonreversing six–conductor cable with similar connectors can be substituted for the one which comes with the unit. Additional cables and junction connectors are available as accessories if greater cable length is required. (Click here to order)

Two mounting holes are provided on the face of the BigDigit Display for fastening to any vertical surface or attachment to the optional table–top stand.

Operation

  • Extend the interconnecting cable between the BigDigit Display and the COUNTDOWN UNIT.
  • Connect one end of the cable to either connector on the rear of the Display and the other end of the cable to either connector on the rear of the COUNTDOWN UNIT.
  • Plug the wall transformer into a 110–Volt AC outlet. If the COUNTDOWN UNIT is powered up, the number showing on the BigDigit Display will immediately correspond to the number to which the COUNTDOWN UNIT is set. If the UNIT is not powered up or connected to the BigDigit Display, the BigDigit Display can show any random number or be completely blank until the COUNTDOWN UNIT is connected and powered up.
  • When all the units have been connected and powered up, operation of the BigDigit Display is now under the command of the COUNTDOWN UNIT to which it has been connected. Refer to the instruction sheet for the COUNTDOWN TIMER (click here) or COUNTDOWN TIMER CONTROLLER (click here) for further operating information.

KlaxonAmp Horn Operating Instructions (Click here to download printable instructions.)
The KlaxonAmp Horn is a combination speaker and amplifier designed to be used with the COUNTDOWN TIMER CONTROLLER. This combination provides a horn blast whenever the count on the COUNTDOWN TIMER CONTROLLER reaches 00, or at any time when the red button on the CONTROLLER is pressed.

The KlaxonAmp Horn requires its own 110 VAC power source. It is best to plug this power source in as the last step in the installation process. Unplugging it should be the first step in the tear down process.

Signal to the KlaxonAmp Horn comes through the shielded cable with the 1/4" monaural connector. Plug this connector into the 1/4" jack on the side of the
COUNTDOWN TIMER CONTROLLER.

Caution: Do not attempt to use the KlaxonAmp Horn for any other type of sound reinforcement (a PA speaker, for example). It is not designed to provide that type of service.

Position the KlaxonAmp Horn where it can best be heard. If it is desirable to muffle the sound somewhat, the KlaxonAmp Horn can be situated face down to block off some of the sound output.

The installation is now complete and ready for operation.
